Like snowflakes, every fingerprint is completely unique.

According to the FBI, even identical twins have different fingerprints. This is because the signature swirls and ridges that make up a person's fingerprints are caused by a whole slew of random elements including their DNA, womb conditions and amniotic fluid composition.

A person's appearance my change, but his or her fingerprint will remain the same for their entire life. By keeping a record of all employees' fingerprints, biometric security systems can infallibly identify users, making it the perfect proof of identity for access control.
